About this raffle
In September, a small group of Mary MacKillop College students will participate in the Tiwi Immersion Program, an experience that will provide them with the opportunity to learn from the Tiwi people, gain an understanding of a different culture and way of life, and reflect on their own role as active and compassionate members of their community. This immersion is designed to broaden students' perspectives, deepen their appreciation of First Nations cultures, and encourage them to consider how they can make a positive difference in the lives of others.A key part of the immersion experience is recognising that we are guests of the Tiwi community. Our students are privileged to be welcomed into the community, to learn from its people, and to experience life in one of Australia's remote regions. We believe that this opportunity comes with a responsibility to give back. For this reason, we are undertaking fundraising activities to raise money that will directly benefit the Tiwi community. Our goal is to leave a meaningful contribution behind as a sign of gratitude and respect for the generosity that will be shown to our students during the immersion.Living in a remote island community presents unique challenges. Access to resources, equipment and everyday items that many of us take for granted can be limited and costly. Through the generosity of our supporters, we hope to provide items, resources or financial assistance that will make a positive and lasting impact for the people of the Tiwi Islands.Funds raised through the raffle will be used to provide practical support to the Tiwi community, enabling our students to leave a meaningful gift behind as a thank you for the generosity, hospitality and learning opportunities they receive during the immersion experience. Every donation will make a valuable contribution to this goal.By supporting this project, you are investing in two communities: you are helping our students develop empathy, cultural understanding and social responsibility, while also contributing to the wellbeing of a remote Australian community that has chosen to share its culture, stories and experiences with them.
